    January 26, 2010 – Game Recap

    Rink Dawgs – 5   Dickson Sider – 1

The Dawgs played a great team game despite not playing together as a unit since ending their summer season early on July 22, 2009.  For many of the guys it was the first time on the floor since the summer and for one player in particular it had been almost 10 years!!

As an original member of the Rink Dawgs back in 1995, Navin Persaud has rejoined the team in 2010.  A solid blue liner back then, Navin helped the Dawgs in capturing the winter championship in their inaugural season.  15 years later and a few more greys, Navin shook off the rust and showed again his ability to contribute on the back end.

The 2010 Spring season version of the Rink Dawgs, looks slightly different then the team did in the Summer of 09′.  Along with the re-addition of Navin, Jamie Farrow has returned to the fold as well.  Seeing their first action as Rink Dawgs, Bill “Big Red” Stewart and “Steady” Eddie Mirzadeh who are on loan from the Flyin Elbows, performed admirably in the team’s 5-1 victory last night.

The game was much closer than the score indicates, after 2 periods of hockey it was only a 2-1 lead for the Rink Dawgs.  Largely due to the spectacular goaltending of Stan for the Dickson Sider team, who stopped 25 of 27 shots over those periods.  Midway through the 2nd period, #33 Tony Rowe scored a beautiful powerplay goal, deking the defenceman and wristing one low blocker side.  After the goal was scored, Rowe was heard saying “Who left their underwear on the floor now” in response to some earlier trash talking from the Sider’s bench.  It was the TSN turning point of the game along with being the game winning goal.

It was a well balanced effort, with the Dawgs taking the play to the Sider’s all night long.  With efforts like that it could be a very successful season for the Rink Dawgs.

    Game Stats:
